Rapid Tests AffiKIT

Rapid Tests AffiKIT are diagnostic tools designed for the rapid and specific detection of various target analytes, such as proteins, antigens, or antibodies, in biological samples. These tests employ lateral flow assay technology to provide quick and accurate results with minimal equipment.

Principle of Operation

  • Lateral Flow Assay: The test utilizes a capillary flow system where a sample migrates along a test strip via capillary action.
  • Test Line and Control Line: The strip includes a test line where the target analyte is detected and a control line to ensure the test is functioning correctly.
  • Detection System: Conjugated antibodies or antigens bind to the target analyte and generate a visible signal (e.g., colored line) on the test line if the analyte is present.

Components

  • Sample Pad: Where the sample is applied and initial reagents are absorbed.
  • Conjugate Pad: Contains labeled antibodies or antigens that bind to the target analyte.
  • Nitrocellulose Membrane: The area where the test line and control line are embedded.
  • Absorbent Pad: Collects excess liquid and helps drive the sample through the test strip.

Procedure

  • Apply a specified volume of the sample to the sample pad.
  • Allow the sample to migrate through the strip by capillary action.
  • The target analyte (if present) binds to conjugated detection reagents and forms a complex.
  • The complex moves along the membrane and binds to the test line, producing a visible signal.
  • A control line appears to confirm the test was performed correctly.

Sensitivity and Specificity

  • Sensitivity: The test's ability to detect low levels of the target analyte.
  • Specificity: The test's ability to exclusively bind to the target analyte, minimizing cross-reactivity with other substances.

Applications

  • Clinical Diagnostics: For rapid detection of pathogens, biomarkers, or antibodies in patient samples.
  • Environmental Testing: Detection of contaminants in environmental samples.
  • Food Safety: Identifying contaminants or pathogens in food products.

Advantages

  • Rapid Results: Typically provides results within 10-30 minutes.
  • Ease of Use: Requires minimal training and equipment.
  • Portability: Suitable for point-of-care testing in various settings.
